Cars are more expensive than ever. It’s worth taking care of the one you have.

Nice-looking cars cost more than bad-looking cars.

I’ve detailed cars at my detailing studio in Smithtown, NY since 2017.

I make cars look their best for a living.

If you keep these 6 basics in mind, I promise you’ll have more money for every car you own.

1. Water Spots

On every vehicle we detail, I see water spots. They are always on the windows.

Water spots come from sprinkler and hose water drying. The minerals in the water leave a mark.

To remove the spots, we use a water spot remover. This product removes the minerals from the surface.

After using a water spot remover, you may have to polish a ring spot away. The minerals can etch and create a mark. Polishing removes the mark.

As long as you don’t let water from sprinklers or a garden hose dry on your car, you won’t have to worry about water spots.

We sell water spot remover in my shop. Give us a call if you want some.

2. Dull Trim

After a few years, the trim on your vehicle becomes faded. The sun damages the material over time.

You can re-dye your trim using Solution Finish. Clean the trim, then apply the product.

Avoid getting it on your paint. The product stains paint without wax or sealant on it.

3. Yellow Lights

The headlights fade over time. This happens because of the sun.

You will need sandpaper and a polisher.

Depending on how bad the lights are, you may need 800 to 3,000 grit sandpaper.

Start with the least aggressive first. Then go stronger if you need to.

You want to remove the yellow with the sandpaper.

Use them in order from lowest to highest.

800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000

After 3000 you can compound and polish with a polisher.

You should have crystal-clear lights.

4. Dirty Wheels

I’m going to teach you exactly how to clean your wheels.

This works on factory clear-coated wheels.

Start with the right brushes. Then get a good all-purpose cleaner.

You will also want an iron remover.

Clean the wheels with the all-purpose cleaner first. Then rinse.

Then use the iron remover. Rinse again.

At my shop, we would apply a 2-year ceramic coating to protect them.

5. Dull Paint

When your paint gets dull, you can polish it to make it shiny again.

I recommend bringing your car to a detail shop.

You will get a better job and save your time.

Especially if you don’t have the tools already.

6. Brake Dust Spots

These spots usually show up on white cars.

This is brake dust on your paint which is beginning to rust.

It comes from your wheels, trains, and airplanes.

You can remove these with an iron remover and a clay towel.
